Post by p1taylor »

Hi All, I have got my AZ-GTi all set up with AZ-GTI Mount PC Connect EQMOD Cable for PC to Hand Control Port Cable Directly and my Lunt 60mm h-alpha scope in the observatory as I ham just going to image the sun got to old to carry on doing dep sky which I have don sins 1950s, I have got the new 3.30 firmware right arm az/eq, what I was wondering will it be ok in AZ as my ASI 178 only takes about 120 seconds to get 1000 images or will it be beater in EQ.

Congrats on the new setup Peter. I think just give it a go and see if image rotation is an issue.

Equatorial use for any imaging will always be better, but for Solar and Lunar (unless taking zillions of frames as AVI's/SER's where times in excess of say 2-minutes or more per capture), then using Alt/AZ use of the mount, will normally be sufficient - especially as single-frame Solar/Lunar captures will likely be just a very-small fraction of a second each and 100/200 frame captures - may well be within 1-minute or so.

Therefore as Mark, correctly states, rotational of the subject will be insignificant use Alt/Az..

Az is fine for short 1000 frame. I used a skywatcher solarquest mount originally and was fine untill I triple mounted now on a neq6.

10ft x 6ft Solar RoR with Warm Room
Lunt 60mm Double Stack HA
80ed WL+ Lunt Hershal Wedge + Badder K-Line filter.
100mm AR + Lunt b1800 Ca-K module.
Neq6 Eq Mount.

2.7m Pulsar Dome.
11in Celestron SCT + White Light Filter.
70mm AR Stellavue.
12inch OO Newtonian.
Eq8 r Pro Mount.
