August 16th images, 396 nm, 300 mm solar scope, St Véran

Post by christian viladrich »

Hi,
Here are two images taken on August 16th.

Note the distorted granulation and intergranular bright points between the two pores :

This area appears as a plage in Ca K :

Clear skies !

Looks ike IF grade gem - Image Flawless!
What a picture finesse to resolve clearly IBP's of the only 100-200km size on the Sun!
I have a pleasure to see all your last posts - a very productive August on St Véran.

I wonder if anyone has ever seen the intergranular bright points visually?, if so it would certainly take a large scope. The contrast is probably also quite low visually.

Christian, Have you ever tried to observe the granulation visually? If so, what can you see?

The images are simply stunning.

Thanks guys !

James, I never used the 300 solar scope visually, or maybe once or twice for the very first tests. The minimum diameter to observe the bright intergranular points is about 250 mm. The contrast is larger than the granulation constrast. Still you need to observe in G-band (=430 nm, FWHM < 10 nm), or at 396 nm. So visually, the optimal would be a 250 mm scope and a G-band filter.
I don't know if any one has done this. This is pobably feasible.
