Lunt Blue Glass Fogging

Post by 04Stefan07 »

I just inspected my B600 and noticed the blue glass has fogged up again. That explains the not so clear image of the Sun on the top left corner!

I've had it replaced before a few years back but I wanted to ask is this something we need to get replaced quite often?

I have been looking up methods on how to clean it but are we better off just replacing it? Only because it's hard to find here and shipping costs literally go through the roof.

I did some googling and some people used metal polish. I gave it a crack and it worked absolutely beutifully. Back to brand, spanking new.

Is it better to replace the glass or will cleaning it be ok and not cause any damage?

I hear the Lunt blockers can be cleaned successfully as you have done. Coronado blockers have to be replaced.

Any particular metal polish? Outside, inside, or both sides?
My B1200S2 is already "mottled."

I’ve used simple lens cleaning fluid and a soft cloth to remove the surface crud off these blue filters, which do seem to fog up from time to time. I’m assuming it’s the same issue that you’re facing.

I clean both surfaces by removing the filters. It’s a bit fiddly with the very small grub screws, but worth the effort.

I used Autosol Metal Polish which I already had.

The glass looks practically brand new.

I read somewhere that CLR cleaner does well too.
