Session time is from 14:20 to 15:21 UTC. The skies are mostly clear with the seeing a bit below average. The temperature is 74F ( 23.3C ). I am back home in Edneyville N.C. today.
Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x, 44.5x and 64x ( Ha )
I can see 4 active region disturbances on the Ha solar disc today. Two are easy. I can see AR12866 near the southwestern limb with AR12869 under it. I can with a close look see a disturbance in the NW quadrant which contains a filament. AR12870 in the far south is hard to see and reveals itself more by disturbing the chromospheric mottles around it. A filament lies just to it's south. Even on the GONG images it's not obvious.
Filaments are few today. I see one in the south. a broken one in the SE near the limb and an indistinct one in the NW that's associated with a weak disturbance located there. Prominences are a little better. The NW limb has a few decent ones, a hedgerow and a small leaning tree. I see one also on the NE limb.
The mottles are seen without difficulty across the disc.
Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 62.5x ( WL )
I can see 5 facular regions on the photosphere today. AR12866 in the SW shows a spot and a pore surrounded by bright faculae. The bright faculae of AR12869 is seen south of it. The NW shows some scattered faculae near the limb. Surprisingly I can pick out some faculae at the north polar region. It takes a close look but is certainly visible. I can see some fairly bright faculae near the SE limb as well.
The fine granulation is visible without difficulty.
The music for today's session is " Russian Light " by Olga Peretyatko.
Carpe Lumen!
James

Maurits,
Hopefully my observations gave you an idea of what was going on since you cannot see the Sun.

Hi James,
Thank you for an accurate and interesting report. The sun pauses briefly (hopefully).
When I read your descriptions, I learn many new things, not only in solar dynamics, but also in cultural terms. This is already the second Russian performer I found out about thanks to you.
Ivan

Thanks James, glad you got a view, looks like it's all heading off the limb now. Pouring with rain here for most of the day, now its foggy. Hoping for some breaks in the cloud on saturday maybe...

Ivan,
Russia has produced for many years some of the best performers in the fine arts. Classical music, opera, ballet etc. And I do like balalaika folk music! Russia also does well with figure skating too which I always have enjoyed though I don't quite follow it quite as closely as I once did.
Mark, Terry and Alexandra,
You Brits have extreme patience with an astronomical hobby in the generally cloudy British Isles. I admire you!
