NEW - PAIR OF SPOTS APPEARING 23-9-2021

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

AR2871 has exploded in the early hours of today/23-9-2021 with an M-Class Solar Flare, which by it's Earth-facing location, could cause significant radio black-outs and possibly other problems.

In the far south-east, a new pair of spots has just appeared and whether they remain and/or grow larger, should be an interesting addition to the current situation. One thing is for certain - that usually when a pair of spots are positioned the way shown in the SDO image, is that there is a fairly-high probability of flares that can occur... Possibly numbering AR2876 - watch that space...

Prominence activity is well-worth seeing/imaging with some quite large ones...

Terry

So many new regions, it will be interesting to know if they keep growing but many will be dropping off the western edge before then.

Thanks Marios, Franco and Alexandra.

Yes you could be right about those "dropping off the W. edge" before some might grow, so who knows, as we can't control the Sun.

As you already know Mark - "when not working, the clouds are working" but just looking at the forecast charts again, there are three slightly-differing charts for mid-day/z on Sunday, but overall for Saturday and Sunday, there should be good opportunities to savour the Sun for much of the southern-half of England at least.

If only it could be like the last four days, where much of my work on the new project has been in the garden in blazing Sun-shine, measuring and cutting wooden panels. A little too hot at times, but almost completed and should be by the end of this Friday, before winds are expected after the weekend...

Best Wishes and Hopes !!

Terry

Thanks Maurits and although Friday will be much the same for the AR's, in two/three days (Monday) both the north and south will see the return of some previous very active AR's or even new ones...
