AR2871 and other - September 25, 2021

Post by ffellah »

Hello all: today a splendid day with good seeing. I had time to enjoy AR2871 in Ha and Sodium, plus a tall prom was giving a good show. I loved the complexity of this active region ! The plasma very much looks like art, in my opinion. I wish we had more days like this, the seeing was good, it was a good solar session. HaT203mm scope with SS for Ha, 6" Explore Scientific with sodium quark for sodium.

I hope you had a chance to image this very interesting active region.

Franco

Superb images, Franco. I’d say the best you’ve ever produced. Just shows how critical good seeing is at these image scales with larger scopes.

Thank you Eric, Stu and Maurits for the positive comments. Stu: seeing is obviously critical but I think I learned a tip that is leading to better results by watching Emil’s video on Autostakkert. This new mount also tracks the sun much better: I really like it.

Sure Mark. This may or may not be new to other solarchatters, but it is new to me. Instead of stacking a certain more or less fixed and arbitrary percentage of frames, say 10 to 25% as I usually did, I followed Emil’s advice of stacking all frames that are above the 50% threshold in the quality analysis graph. This means a totally different percentage for each image each time. In my recent 1000 frames ser files it meant anywhere between a low of 70 to a high of 750 frames to be stacked. It seems to work for me. Hope it works for some of our members too.
