Today's sun 10th October 2021 -Full Disc

Post by Radon86 »

Hi all !
Hope you are all well. I have to get ready to go back to work soon, so this may be my last post for some time. There was good weather and patchy cloud, so I tried my "winter gear"", 60mm guidescope but I put it on my EQ3 Pro synscan mount which is driven EQ mount. I managed 2 frames with good removal of NR by matched histograms in Firecapture.

Anyhow, I did some processing, ImPPG, sigma 1.7885. I looked at Montana's guide, and she advised 500 iterations of this, so I did. Although ImPPG recommend 50 to 70 iterations. I don't know what the answer is. Can anyone advise ???

Here is my process, after levels, ImPPG 500 iterations at sigma 1.7885, high pass filters x2 and illumination correction in Photoshop.
(cut to jpeg files to reduce space).

If anybody wants to have a go at my original stacked and merged files, I can give you a dropbox link...

Thanks for your attention.
Magnus

The full disc looks excellent Magnus :bow :hamster: try lots of variations in ImPPG, one size never fits all ;) try and get a balance of fine detail without getting bad ringing. I find that doing more iterations makes you do less on the slider so finer detail comes out. However this is what is best in my setup and not necessarily yours. Have a play with all the sliders and look closely to what happens to the noise levels and also the details. You can play for ages but at least IMPPG is fast and responsive :)

I love the background colouring effect of the first FD image Magnus.

Much surface-detail shows in these captures.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the nice comments.
I will have to learn about adjusting my background colours and noise processing next, amongst a few others.

Magnus.

Well done Magnus. Can you post a stacked image prior to any further processing, please?

Thanks.

Magnus:
Congratulations on the SPOD.
I usually take 600 frames and pick In AS3! 25% to 30% of the best frames, then process the aligned frame first in Registax6, then in PS and MaximDL.
Thanks for sharing your work.
Eric.
