AR2882 in HA, CaK & WL & Discs | Oct 10th 2021

Post by MalVeauX »

Heya,

Man, I've not seen the sky since 9/5! It's been over 35+ days of rain and clouds here in Florida, despite the "sunny" name and that's freaking October and the fall already. Crazy. So tired of it. Anyhow, today is the first clear day I've had in what felt like ages so I didn't want to waste a bit of it and quickly went for a trifecta of the lovely AR2882 and discs in HA, CaK & WL. I didn't push my images scales today, seeing was ok, but not great. The temps dropped a bit here, in the 70's (F) so there's a large morning temperature delta that ruined my best seeing moments, but it was good enough for moderate resolution.

These are beautiful Marty, I bet this made you feel good :bow :hamster: I really hope the weather settles, it should be coming into your sunny season, surely?

It's been so awful lately! I had like 6 sessions this summer due to endless clouds, rain and just nastiness. Sick of Florida, not a "Sunshine State" at all. It was all lies!

Marty,
I wondered where you had been. Sorry about all the nasty weather. Those images today look really good. I would have never known your seeing was only fair judging by the clarity of the granulation in your AR12882 closeup at 540nm.

Hi Marty,
Very nice images ! Now you know how it feels to be in London ! We get a lot more cloud and rain here !!

Which scope did you use for the H-alpha full disc. I read somewhere you used a guidescope but no mention of it here.

Hi,

A Lunt 60 Modular with an IMX253 based sensor for simplicity; single stack. Listed last in the equipment section, and an image shows its tiny size riding piggy back on the 120mm. Fantastic little scope.

Very best,

I moved away from the Quark quite a while ago and rolled some PST etalons until I found a decent one. I use a PST mod these days for single stack HA for the moderate resolution HA stuff. I dislike waiting for power warmup electronics and the extra stuff of having to deal with really long focal-ratios and use reducers, etc. I much prefer a simple air spaced setup, no electronics needed, no amplifiers then reducers, etc.

Very best,

Great images, Marty. Sorry to hear about the weather. No hurricanes though, which is a positive.
