10.07.21 Sun in Lunt50 mod
Hello everybody,
Only now, it became possible to process the material filmed a week ago. Mosaic of 12 fragments.
I would be very glad to receive constructive criticism.

Wow!! superb fine detail in this at closer look and what a lovely photo of you too
You know that we can never fault your images as you take such good care if you really want a comment I would say somehow you need to get the limb better. At the moment the blending between surface and limb looks a little artificial but I couldn't say how you can improve it without losing the proms perhaps fiddling with the curves a little?

That's an excellent image, Ivan! I do believe your Lunt LS50Tha does give a more evenly illuminated field with less of a sweet spot than my SolarMax II 60 does. I still wonder sometimes if I made the right decision with the SMII60 Vs the Lunt 50.

Thanks a lot for Alexander's advice, I really appreciate it. I tried many options, and in the end I was not happy with the limb. I will try to continue looking for a balance.

Thanks James. My copy also has flaws, but I'm used to it, and I like the picture it gives. Now I am thinking how to double the stack.

Hi Ivan,
Many thanks for the two images posted. (I'm not gonna say which is the better), but at least you are smiling too...
And now James has joined the affray of Lunt-50 vs SM60, but I must add for a 50mm - Ivan's is certainly doing the bizz..
And daughter has done so well too...

Excellent image Ivan!
Processing often come down to taste and what people want to enhance. I think you've managed to get good contrast on the disc and at the same time bring out the proms. Maybe, as Alexandra suggested, try to work on the transition between the disc and proms. Personally, I would suggest to make the sky background slightly darker without darkening the proms. If you manage this the proms will stand out even clearer.
Best regards,
Arne

Re: 10.07.21 Sun in Lunt50 mod
Don't get me wrong, I like my SMII60 it just appears that the LS50Tha gives a more even view throughout the field. I have gotten used to the shortcomings of my SMII60 but I still wonder if I would have done better with a double stacked Lunt LS50Tha.
And Ivan, Lunt does sell a stacking filter for your scope.

I made the background darker, maybe this option is a little better.

Re: 10.07.21 Sun in Lunt50 mod
James, thanks for the comment and link (it looks like the LSS has updated the site). I meant double stack for 90mm mod.DeepSolar64 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 4:52 am Don't get me wrong, I like my SMII60 it just appears that the LS50Tha gives a more even view throughout the field. As for the Lunt50 and SM60, it's hard to say anything until you put them side by side and compare.

Re: 10.07.21 Sun in Lunt50 mod
First of all, since this is a mosaic of 12 different sections, BRAVO for the seamless combination of the frames! I think you have done a good job of blending the limb with the surface, and I wouldn't worry too much about a double limb showing on single stacked images since we realize we are looking at an image that shows the chromosphere floating just above the slightly visible photosphere, which at times I think is a pretty cool look, particularly since you can see structures in sunspots that are hidden in double stacked images.

Thanks a lot Warren. Shooting a mosaic is always very exciting, one bad piece and all the work goes to the trash can.rigel123 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 4:02 pm First of all, since this is a mosaic of 12 different sections, BRAVO for the seamless combination of the frames! I liked your idea of single-stack photography as an opportunity to show the transparency of the chromosphere.

Re: 10.07.21 Sun in Lunt50 mod
Nicely done, Ivan!
A good mod. performance, indeed. Concerning the limb details I would suuggest also to use curves or shadows/highlight tools on previous processing steps, but just to smooth not to eliminate the double limb out like with DS.
regards
Leo

Beautiful full disk image, Ivan. I prefer the second one with a darker background, but that’s just a matter of taste.
