October 16 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 14:15 to 14:48 UTC. The skies are partly cloudy with fair seeing. The temperature is 66F ( 18.8C )

Coronado Solarmax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see 5 areas of disturbance in the chromosphere but none are really obvious or spectacular. It takes a close look to see anything of AR12882 on the NW limb. I can also see two areas of disturbance in the SW. They are certainly more easily seen in the GONG images. I can also see minor plage ruffleages in the NE and SE.

Filaments are few. I see a couple in the SE quadrant and four in the NE quadrant including one in a disturbed area located there. GONG Cerro Tololo shows several others that I didn't see like one at the NE limb.

Prominences are decent today. I can see several on the NW limb and some nice ones on the SW limb. The three SW ones from N-S are a leaning one pointing south, a center fluff and a southern flame. The NE shows the best ones with a big northernmost one looking like a big heavy headed animal with a brighter body and another fairly bright prom to it's south.

The mottles are visible without difficulty today.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see 4 areas of disturbance on the photosphere today. I can just barely see the spot of AR12882 almost on the NW limb and at 50x I can just make out the umbra within the penumbra. I can see it's surrounding faculae. In another three hours or so it will be invisible on the limb. I can also see a fairly easy patch of faculae in the NE and more difficult faculae in the SE and SW. I see no spots our pores in either of these.

The fine granulation is visible.

Carpe Noctem!

James

Hi James...

Nice to read your report for the session! Overcast with rain all day here, so I'm relying on others to show or describe whats going on ;)
