26th Oct - Prominence eruption

Post by JohnW »

26th Oct. A prominence erupted today on the Sun's NE limb just before midday in SE Australia (12-40 am UT) - it lasted for only about 15 minutes. I managed to image the eruption - conditions were not the best but it was spectacular. I had to overexpose the surface in order for the eruption to show up. Lunt 100 Ha scope with Canon 550d camera. Single exposures of 1/80 sec.
The last image shows the Sun's southern hemisphere with some sunspots and flares (ARs are numbered).
Thanks for viewing.

That’s impressive, SDO showed a lot of activity there at that time!!

Thanks John for including the explosive-activity occurring in the North-East, which should be even as interesting when it if fully into view over the limb.

Thanks for for sharing your excellent images

I observed today between 14:30-18:00 UTC. The NE limb area has been very active with surge proms coming and going and a little white spot that turned out to be an M class flare. I'll post tonight when I get home.

John, your images are very similar to what I saw today on the limb.

James

Thanks everybody for your comments - thanks for SPOD. A really nice eruption - I was lucky to be observing at the right time.
Cheers, John W.
