28 Oct 2021, Animation of two C3 solar flares in AR12887, 59 min duration

Post by H-Alpha »

Hi all,

It was the party today! ;-)
Bad seeing and the building in front of me stopped the animation just before the huge X flare! Grrrrrr... :-(
Anyway, I was glad to capture two C3 Solar flares in AR12887, both after the M flare of the SPOD and just before the X flare.
Better than nothing.

Below I marked the two C3 flares captured:

Sorry for the seeing and the blurry parts of the animation, but this is life. (and for not remembering to make a flat...)
I should not have used the x2 Barlow and the results would have been much better I think.

PLEASE give it some time to load properly and run at right speed.

Hope it is interesting.
Best wishes,
Alexandros

The sun has really been active with flares over the last couple of days. The C3 flare you captured in the animation looks almost alive! That's a very nice animation of it too, flat or no flat.

Terrific!! what a beautiful flow of material in those arch filaments :movie :bow

I am also really interested to know how you got all the markings of the flares to show in the GOES X-ray data? I've only ever been able to hover and measure with a ruler https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/goes-x-ray-flux#

SpaceWeatherLive includes them on their GOES satellite data chart.

Alexandra as James noted, if you go to https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/sol ... lares.html and you hover the graph, you have the time for every event on the curve. I just leave the mouse over the point I want and make print screens.

Best wishes,
Alexandros
