Coronado SMII 90, SS and DS results

Post by mrcvaccari »

Hello everyone!
Just wanted to share what I was able to capture during the handful of days that I have managed to use my new solar scope
After reading all I could find on the potential of the SMII 90 scope, I still couldn't believe what I was able to capture despite having no experience with it. So far, I found that the SS configuration is superior with the prominences while the DS works wonders with the chromosphere.
The animation of the prominence is heavy as it covers more than 4 hours....here I am attaching a single frame and below here is the link to a low resolution post on spaceweather: hope it works

I agree, SS for proms and DS for the chromosphere

I remember this prom!! I have a SMII90 as well. I certainly would say SS for prominences and DS for chromosphere though brighter proms show up quite well in DS.

Good to know! I'll certainly have some questions for you then.... despite the good results, properly tuning the front filter is still a bit of a question mark

Thank you Alexandra! I only recently switched to solar and I am totally blown away by it
Unfortunately my backyard observatory does not allow me a clear view of our star during the winter so I am going to mount my night sky scopes for a while....
Thanks again
Marco

The animation is actually much longer but had to cut it due to size restrictions.
Some day I will find a way to post it somewhere

Excellent images and animation.

4 hrs is a heck of a commitment on an animation sequence, but the results are well worth the effort.
Congratulations on SPoD and what a magnificent debut. Welcome.

Thank you all for the compliments.
I started capturing the prominence at 8.40 and ended at 14.40 local time; 219 x 1,000 frames videos without pause time between then
Meteoblue's and local seeing were 5/5 so I knew that it was well worth the effort
