Session time is from 16:00 to 17:00 UTC. Clearing skies. Fair/average seeing. The temperature is 48F ( 8.8C ). Breezy.
Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x and 33x ( Ha )
The most obvious things visible on the Ha Sun today are the two filaments in the SE quadrant. They appear much as they do in the GONG Big Bear image visually. I also quickly notice the prominences flanking the eastern limb. A low bright one on the NW limb and the SW limb shows a couple that looks detached. They are actually easier to see than the GONG Big Bear image shows them. A flamelike one is seen on the SSE limb.
Active regions/plages take a closer look and a bit more effort to see. AR12896 is barely visible. AR12897 is just a little easier. Both are seen by their plages. I never could see their spots in Ha. I can also see an elongated plage in the SE quadrant not far off the limb. It's not easy either.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x and 62.5x ( WL )
I can see three regions in the WL photosphere today. AR12896 is visible only as a single small dark spot without a visible penumbra. AR12827 is visible as a single spot without penumbra with another vague spot to it's NW. SDO high rez imagery shows this spot to be a triangular pattern of three tiny pores. I can see a patch of faculae in the SE quadrant near the limb which corresponds to a faint plage seen there in Ha. SDO HMI continuum images show fainter faculae in the NW and SW near the limb. Strangely, I did not notice any of these.
The fine granulation of the photosphere is easily seen today.
Carpe Lumen!
James

Re: November 22 2021 Observations
Thanks for the interesting description, James. Low activity is definitely a challenge for the observer, which you have done well.

Re: November 22 2021 Observations
Thanks James, glad the sun was out for you. Seems we're on similar weather at the moment. First proper frost of the season last night, I think most of the leaves will be off the trees in a week or so time here...
