I have am looking for some tips for capturing time lapse videos of solar activity. I have single images down but just getting started in time lapse.
I have been trying with Sharp Cap which seems to work fine but curious what others are using and any tips for getting better results.

Re: Tips for making time lapse solar videos
There are many ways to do this, there is a great tutorial in the Solar reference library:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=28572
and I also have a few tips in this I wrote a while back
https://solarnutcase.livejournal.com/18572.html
I hope these help in your quest

Re: Tips for making time lapse solar videos
How long is the actual time you are capturing the video? I looked at the Youtube video and it mentioned 10 seconds....not sure if that (in the example) was the real time duration or the video play back duration.rigel123 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 27, 2021 11:16 pm I'll throw in a tutorial I updated a year ago as well.

Re: Tips for making time lapse solar videos
I am referring to the amount of time it takes to capture 500 to 1000 frames for each AVI or SER for each frame of the animation. So I capture an AVI of 500 to 1000 frames every 30 seconds for anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes, ending up with 60 - 180 AVI's to process and align for the animation. The amount of time for each capture will depend upon how many frames you wish to capture for each AVI and the exposure length you choose and how many frames per second your camera and computer can achieve. The playback time for the final animation will depend upon the number of frames and what delay you choose between each frame in the GIF. I use no delay in my GIF's in Photoshop.RKBerta wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 2:15 amHow long is the actual time you are capturing the video? Re: Tips for making time lapse solar videos
Warren....thanks so very much. That should help very much. Sadly the weather will be getting into freezing here in Michigan so may have to wait for the spring to give it a try.

Re: Tips for making time lapse solar videos
Glad to help, I was just out catching an hour on a flare and post flare loop prom for an animation and hope to post later.
