December 12th - Ha Series

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi everyone...

The past month has not been very favorable for astronomy due to the weather and I think it has been close to three weeks since my last solar session.

After the wild windstorm here on Saturday night the skies on Sunday stayed clear all day long. I feel lucky as it was no where near as bad as the folks in the US Midwest experienced with massive tornado damage and loss of life :( . The dome has been decommissioned as part of the construction of the new observatory, as I had to disconnected the hydro and network cables until the new one is fully up and running. As a result the LS80T solar scope is piggy backed on the C14 in the large roll-off and will be my limit for solar work for a while. I may dismount the C14 and setup the Orion 130/LS80T solar combo once I have finished with Jupiter for the season...maybe over Christmas?

So, back to the Sunday solar imaging...clear skies and absolutely terrible seeing. The full disk through the DS Ls80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha solar scope turned out well, and I tried a 2x focal extender to boost the image scale too. These turned out well despite the seeing, but maybe I should have used the 2x or 2.5x instead.

There were not a lot of AR's on the disk, but a nice collection of proms and filaments were present. First image is the full disk image, using a 1.6x barlow with the ASI1600MM camera:

Brian,
These turned out well despite the seeing. And you picked out the Caribou prom on the SE limb! :-)

Blessings

An excellent set of images, Brian, in terrible seeing, as you say.

You can see the conditions were not favorable but you succeeded in getting some really good views of the sun and prominences, Brian. Best wishes for the construction of the new observatory !

Excellent Brian!! :bow :hamster: I see what James means about the caribou prom, I think that is the only one you didn't get a close up of :) I'm glad you are safe after all the bad weather and hope the new observatory gets up and running soon.

Hello Brian, considering the weather conditions, you have well captured some interesting proms, where I have named -
"3x_LS80T-NW Prom-2.jpg (155.18 KiB) Viewed 33 times" as "The Bike Rider" prominence...

Thanks for sharing
