20/12/2021 : NOAA 12907 Flare C2.9 animation

Post by Arrakis97 »

Hello everyone :)
On the morning of 20/12/2021, despite the suboptimal conditions with considerable turbulence, while I was observing with the H alpha filter, I filmed the C2.9 flare of the active region NOAA 12907. The flare started at 11.37 CET was filmed starting at 11.44 : I therefore lost the initial phase but I managed to film the phase of maximum and degrowth. Unfortunately, the exciting event would have required other weather conditions, such as those of the previous day (see second image). I was so excited :o by the flare that I didn't realize I had a flat field error....
Bye Carlo

Thank you Alexandra for the kind comments and for the suggestion. :hamster:
I am always very attentive to weather conditions; on day 20 they were not optimal due to wind and turbulence and I had filmed with direct fire without Barlow with a discreet quality; however, since the day before the use of the additional Barlow 2x had given good results I hoped that the conditions would improve so I mounted the Barlow; I was finishing to reconfigure the system at the level of flat field when I realized a flare is starting so I gave up everything and did the shooting like this; I had to decide in a few seconds whether to disassemble the Barlow and reset the system but for fear of losing the maximum I gave up. In fact I would have had less than 2 minutes available so I probably would have lost the maximum. After ten minutes I stopped because a fog fell which, as they say in our area, was cut with a knife.
Best wishes for clear skies
Carlo
