NEW - AR2919 JOINS THE FEW TODAY 26-12-2021

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

Having lost up to 7 AR's over the last few days, all is not ended as, AR2919 in the south-east has appeared - making four numbered Active Regions today.

There is still much activity on the visible-surface, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the earlier AR's re-appear.

In fact, up to 42 Sun-spots are currently split-up among the four AR's today..

Thanks James and yes indeed 2916 is certainly showing that a flare and/or CME (of possibly a large size) is very likely... :!:

I feel, as Alexandra says, size in the case of AR2916 does look very interesting with its' three massive spots and dependent on polarities is significant.

Although here in S.E.England, for days now just rain, drizzle and fog, but if the sky is clear wherever, 2916 should be easily visible to the un-aided but correctly filtered naked-eye.. James's Sunoculars for instance... :?:

Have a good evening/day wherever you are. :movie

Latest info as of 2300z 26-12-2021 - is that AR2916 is apparently very unstable and may well blast an X-Flare towards Earth any time soon.

If so it would affect radio-communication on Earth...

Also AR2920 has been added to the spaceweather-live page, but appears to be misplaced, so not certain which region it refers to...
