URGENT REQUEST - PLEASE

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

Hello,
I have an ACER ASPIRE E17 ES1-711-C231 LAPTOP WITH WINDOWS 8.1 PLATFORM.

Accidentally this morning, I have changed the screen from positive to negative and have no idea which of the keyboard keys were pressed to cause this.

A web search has been attempted, but as usual the results usually go away from a simple answer or talk about something entirely different...

Bearing in mind the the details above, if somebody could assist and advise (simply) what is needed to return to the usual positive display, I would be very much appreciated.

I will not be available for an immediate/quick reply between 1000hrs and about 1400hrs LOCAL/GMT/UTC today/Thursday 30/12..

Thanks vm in advance and very much appreciated for a result...

Regards
Terry

Hi Terry,

Sounds like you've got accessibility mode on, high contrast or something like that?

Thanks vm Mark and that's another clue for me to look at, so I'll into that when I get back later this afternoon.

I must admit that to have white lettering on a black background is quite "eye-pleasing" and less eye-strain, but for pictures/Solar or otherwise is not ideal - to say the least.

Will advise if/when service is back to normal

Terry,
You might try this. I'll do more research.

Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 are in ways similar.

Hi Terry,

Did you resolve the issue yet ? Please post the picture of your screen, as I am not sure what is wrong. I am sure it is quite easy to fix though.

Thank you Mark, John James and Magnus for your very important suggestions, but this afternoon has been tedious to say the least, as a serious medical issue (not COVID related) is going to be taking over much of my time now and no-doubt soon.

I had started to reply, but as Magnus suggested about applying some images, I have just taken those as enclosed here and noted in the headings etc., but lost the web-link.

So briefly tonight as I need some rest early, are those images so far and as the Internet Service Provider is intending to sort-out the pathetic slow-speeds tomorrow/Friday PM, (not being allowed into my home either-COVID risk, as we are now in the highest risk-category here), so I will try-out some of the suggestions from yourselves.

Just to reiterate:- I have an ACER ASPIRE E17 ES1-711-C231 LAPTOP WITH WINDOWS 8.1 PLATFORM. This may or may not be different from Win-10 operations..

I'll try and locate some sort of ACER Manual/Guide as well.

If any other assistors could help, it will also be very much appreciated, as my IT advisor is down with COVID as well as another of my close-friend and aviator, there worse too..

This is all quite confusing - similar to looking at a mirror and typing from that mirror-view...

Cheers for now
Terry

Hi Rainer, have just tried that as Ctrl+Alt+1 and nothing obvious happened.
I do note that on the remote keyboard there are two sets of Ctrl and Alt, and that the right-hand set is near where the accidental-area that was pushed-against.

That doesn't apply to the laptop's own keyboard, so logic suggest to now try that on the laptop keyboard, so here goes...

And you've guessed it, nothing happens... Possibly close though...

I'll stay-up for a short while longer for any more suggestions...

Terry

Hi Terry,

I think you have set your Background settings of your display to BLACK.
(pressing left shift+left alt+print screen (simultaneously) may also have gotten you to that.
Simply: goto control panel or search DISPLAY to go to your DISPLAY settings. You may also access this via an icon in the bottom of your screen in the right hand corner.

Simply choose your usual display theme e.g. clouds, or a different background colour.

I hope that works !!!

Dear Terry,

Search for BACKGROUND, in Settings, may also find you the answer.

Dear Terry,

Sorry to hear about your health problems. I hope you get the right attention asap. Best wishes to you.

I think my above advice may be incorrect: you have got a HIGH CONTRAST display settings.

Try pressing:
(left alt)+(left shift)+(print screen) key on your normal keyboard simultaneously, whilst in a webpage (not on desktop mode) should reverse the high contrast display.

Now you know how to get high contrast display !!!

Best of luck with your health Terry , have you tried System Restore and gone back to a date prior to when the problem occurred.

Thank you Gentleman as Franco, Martin, Stuart and Magnus.

Martin, System Restore is the name I needed to try, so that will be tried next, as I recall it should take the computer back in time before the incident.
So many thanks for that...

Yes Stuart, I am totally mentally overloaded with the on-goings here, so am having a difficult time, what with this main-pc snag not helping. In fact, an hour ago, I could barely get an eye-focus on the screen at all, with another far-more serious health problem also being a major-distraction..

But actually and hopefully with the grateful-words from yourselves here on SC, at least it gives me a chance to forget the worst.
I can't unfortunately, make my usual comments on images posted here due to the colour-inversion, but maybe when that is sorted, I will...

Best Wishes to everyone on SC for the 2022 year.
Of course also CLEAR SKIES too...

Regards
Terry
ps, now back to trying to solve this PC's negative-issue...

Rainer had the answer as " Ctrl+Alt+i even though " Ctrl+Alt+I " was understood to be the instruction, but with the similarities between 1, I/i & L/l and my failing one-eyed sight problem, it was my fault that failed to correct the negative-colour situation here on this my most important pc... :bow

Now I am starting to get used to a too-bright white background on the email-side of this pc-usage and will be able to review all the posts that I have not so far done with their images and respond. :hamster: :hamster: :hamster: :hamster: :hamster: :hamster: :hamster: :hamster: :hamster:

Thanks again Gentleman and Best wishes to you all for 2022.. :seesaw :D :movie :girl: :hamster: :beanie: :bow :bow2 :band :o

Terry

Same here Terry. I am glad it's not COVID-19. My daughter was diagnosed with COVID-19 yesterday. It's got all the symptoms of the omicron variant. I last visited her on Christmas Eve and got tested yesterday. I turned up negative.

Thanks you for your wishes James and Ivan.

Sorry to hear that you daughter has COVID James and I wish her the best-recovery asap.

I definitely do not have and unlikely to catch COVID outside of hospital - but that may well change in the nearer-future. (I am taking severe precautions to prevent me catching it - as is especially needed)...

Ivan, thanks again and with just 4-hrs 15-minutes to run to midnight here, a H.N.Y. to you and James...
