Large prom from Sydney Australia 31st December 2021.

Post by GUS »

Caught this around 5pm from my home, west of Sydney Australia. Sketched on Black paper as seen through a Lunt LS100 SS scope at 204x magnification.
It was fast moving (changes in minutes) so had to work quick, made a few sketches. This was quite a large event, and was associated with a flare 700,000 Km's away in the North hemisphere. see here on Spaceweather- https://spaceweathergallery.com/indiv_u ... _id=181087

WoW, awesome sketch, Gus! 204x. Seeing has never let me get that high of a magnification. 166x is the highest I have ever been able to use here. I only occasionally exceed 100x with my Coronado SMII90, even in single stack.

Thank you all for the comments and likes. I don't image anymore so have taken up sketching to capture some of these spectacular events, as some are too good to let pass without recording them.

I've also updated the link in the opening post which shows an image of how large this event was, my sketch only shows the small section close to the disk.
