New Year flare

Missed some of the other flares and liftoffs in the last couple of days, but noticed a flare from AR2918 on GONG this afternoon (0800 UT), so scrambled to setup my scope in the last remaining patch of sun. Rotten seeing, with a tree branch wobbling across the view in the wind, but managed to grab a couple of shots as the flare was calming down.

I bet that's the same area that I reported a flare at 07:30 UTC near the NW limb. Nice capture. You caught it's surge prominence!

Yes, that looks like the same one. I need to set up an alert myself to make sure I don’t miss these as the sun gets more active.
