AR2924 and a newcomer, WL 09-01-2022

Post by Martin_S »

Today I got a second chance to use my home built solar Newtonian, today was quite gusty and unstable as we are right in the middle of our sub tropical summer here in Brisbane. I had to fight the clouds and wind but got some half decent images.

The solar Newtonian now has a motorised focuser so all my Imaging is done from inside.

Here are some images taken with my ASI290mm at prime focus and a close up of AR2924 with a 3x Barlow plus a fleeting glimpse of a new sunspot making it's way around the limb.

That's a monster of a scope - Hope it doesn't topple into that tempting pool!

Thanks Mark ,all up it cost me around AUD100 and a few hours in the shed, a lot cheaper than a Hershel wedge.

Beautiful results and a very interesting set up too, Martin. I agree with Mark, it looks like it is working very nicely. I think you mentioned it is a 6” aperture, but what is the focal length ?

Fabulous capture Martin and with the first image of the newbie (probably to be AR2926) by the newbie scope - is shown very well.

The monster scope is looking fab and about to take-off, but not in the pool hopefully...

Thanks vm for sharing
Terry

That's an awesome setup Martin. It's also nice that you can operate it from inside the comfort of your home. You go nice results as well. The individual granules are visible!

Excellent images and a fascinating instrument! :bow

They say one should image over water to avoid ground sourced, convection currents.

We have a high water table. I had better start digging! ;)
