January 14 2022 Observations. WL quick summary only.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is a quick intermittent 17:15 to 17:44 UTC. The skies are mostly cloudy with high and middle level clouds. The seeing seems ok. The temperature is 45F ( 7.2C )

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see 8 numbered groups on the Sun with all of them having spots/pores. Many of these show umbra/penumbra structure. In addition to these I could also see a patch of faculae very near the NE limb that hasn't yet been assigned a number. Due to clouds and lack of time I did not have an opportunity for a close lengthy look at these systems so all I can post is a quick summary. The solar western hemisphere certainly is having a zit attack, that's for sure!!

We have a strong winter system coming in from the SW and 8-12 inches of snow is predicted for Saturday evening through Sunday.

Stay warm everyone and happy Friday!

James

P.S. We did have an M class flare back during the night here at 0.200 UTC

James, thanks for the report, your comparisons of sunspots to acne and measles make me smile.
12 inches of snow in a couple of hours is a nightmare. We also got so much snow that soon we will need caterpillars like a tractor, not wheels, to drive around the city :)

Oh yeah! I am getting prepared. Bringing wood in and getting oil for the space heater in case of power loss. Extra canned food and snow shovels too!
