Sun in Ha and CaK 18th Jan 2022

Post by Carbon60 »

Finally some Sun. Whilst much of the UK had great weather over recent days, I was stuck under clouds here in the NW of England. I thought I was in with a chance a couple of days ago when the Met Office website showed lots of sunshine over where I live, but, alas, they were dead wrong; absolutely wrong!

Anyhow, today the report was more accurate and after some early fog lifted the Sun was out and beautiful. That said, the seeing conditions were poor, but sufficient to capture a couple of FD mosaics in Ha and Ca II K on my TS Lunt 60 and 72 mm lightwave stopped to 40 mm and fitted with a Lunt CaK module. Foolishly I set up the 150 mm, but couldn't even get it to properly focus, such were the conditions.

A Basler acA2440-75 camera was used in combination with a 2.5x Barlow. The Ha disk is made up of 9 panes and the CaK disk is composed of 4. MS ICE was used to stich the panes together with ImPPG applied to deconvolute and sharpen. PixInsight was used to refine and colourise.

Here are the results.

First up CaK FDs in mono and colour:

...and the Ha FDs.

That's about it for today.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Awesome disks Stu! Look at all of those filaments! Not sure when I’ll see the sun again, cloudy skies look like the norm in the near/distant future!

Stu,
Very nice work. I love the CaK. It shows the plages so well and just look at all those filaments on your Ha image!

I am glad you got the Sun today.
