Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me or, at least point me in the right direction.
I've literally spent hours in Photoshop Elements 11 ( the poor man's Photoshop ) trying to perform what ( I think ) is a simple task.
I should mention that I am an Oldie, and not " into " computers.
I want to stick a full disk inside an over-exposed disk so that I can show the disk details together with the Proms.
I've tried following the Adobe tutorial but I'm getting nowhere, and can't see where I'm going wrong.
I'll attach the 2 images for reference .
Thanks in advance.

Keith.

No problem

I don't use Elements but here are the Photoshop CS6 steps

1) open both images in Photoshop

2) using the magic wand tool, click in the black area of the surface image to mask off the surface

your resulting mask should look like this:
Screen Shot 2014-11-17 at 3.58.44 PM.png
Then find whatever command that will invert the selected area. In photoshop it is in the Select menu, modify and then invert selection.
It should then look like this:

3) In this case because of the distorted edge due to some weird processing, I contracted the mask by 2 pixels to give us a clean edge

4) then feather the edge by 2 or 3 pixels so there will be a gradual transition to the prom image using.

5) choose "copy"

6) go to the other file and choose "paste"

7) select the pasted image and more it over to the edge of the prom inmate being careful to cover the edge al;l the way. It won't be large enough to cover the whole thing so just start on one edge.

8) then grab the corner boxes and resize it to cover the edge all around.

9) then using the box mask tool, crop the image to make it look nice and centered and save it as a .jpg or whatever file format you like...

Thanks Stephen, I'll try that in the morning. Your " tutorial " is much easier to follow than the official version.

Great job Keith!
Now you have this cracked, you can play with different colour schemes using B&W v colour or try inverted disc and/or proms. These work especially well with higher resolution shots taken with a Barlow.

Thanks Walter, in my excitement I forgot to " flip " the image, sorry.
I agree with Alexandra, the Library is the place for this Tutorial, it's certainly saved me from tearing my hair out, and I haven't much hair left. ( it's started growing inwards and coming out of my ears.}

Thats the purpose of this forum and the favorite thing the generous users here do, man. Im glad it helped. Every single person that uses this forum started out knowing nothing...:)

I learned how to use photoshop by watching a series of very funny and free tutorials on youtube called "You Suck at Photoshop".

The guy tells funny stories about his rocky relationship with his wife as he shows you how to "photoshop" out her old boyfriends from her pictures, etc... its pretty funny.
