A serious evolution between today and yesterday, with a beautiful "arch" forming on this prominence.

Very good images with much details in the spicule carpet, my Quark Chromo is not so good. Is the interference eliminator needed with the 174 ?

Wow!! this is a gorgeous shot :bow :hamster:

That is one thing I should learn, how to get an Earth on a picture. The biggest downfall for me is that I have never found a decent Earth picture to use and how you get it so small without it being one big pixel?

Hi Alexandra,
I think this Earth may be reasonably easy to use. I already isolated the Earth, its 673 pixels. I could explain it to you, but I have plans to make a Solar SSM ! I could publish it another time on the tutorials section.
There is some information on Brierley Hill solar blog, although I found the sound very hard to hear and understand.
https://brierleyhillsolar.blogspot.com/ ... rials.html

I had to learn Photoshop, layers and everything. Still not learned it al! after more than 2 years ! You can also use GIMP or Affinity Photo, which are less expensive alternatives and quite adequate.
I only found it after an extensive search online.

Alexandra, I have the "TIF image" that I use in my images as above.
You can use them, can I set it up here as a TIF file?

Hi all,
I think I have found an easier way to calculate the size of the earth (in pixels) - this will be an option in your imaging program - to resize the earth image. Assuming the diameter of the earth is 109 times smaller than the sun, and the sun is about 30 minutes of arc = 1800 arc seconds.
Then just calculate your image scale using the calculator in:

astronomy.tools

(make adjustments for your optical train) - once you have this reasonably accurately: then (image scale is in arcseconds/pixel).

size of earth (pixels)= 16.514/(image scale)
This will save you the hassle of having to draw a large circle in photoshop, measure the diameter of the sun in millimetres and dividing it by 109 to get the diameter of the earth.

I am sure this has been done before, but not able to find a reference to it.
If I am wrong, then please correct my error(s).

Hope this helps.

Magnus
