Geomagnetic Activity- January 2020 Summary

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi Folks,

Here's my geomagnetic activity summary for January 2020. Nothing too dramatic, but what activity there was sparked beautiful aurora around the poles, mainly as a result of the magnetic field carried by the flowing plasma 'turning south'. This means that the field is able to connect directly with Earth's magnetic field, producing a more intense geomagnetic effect.

A very nice plot Stuart, mostly calm but the most recent event looks the most intense. I think this is probably the one that Brian in Scotland posted images of on Facebook last week, so it was seen in the far north of Scotland :hamster:

Thanks, Alexandra. Good to know Brian saw the effects first hand.

Thank you for the feedback :)
