After a G1 geomagnetic storm on Feb 6th/7th, sparking beautiful aurora, things had quietened down back to background levels and it looked like the excitement was over. Surprisingly a geomagnetic impulse arrived on the 8th sparking stunning aurora 'some of the best ever' according to reports. The cause was a southerly magnetically oriented impulse that connected with Earth's magnetic field, allowing solar particles to enter and make the air glow.
Here's the event in full from the 6th as recorded on my magnetometer.
It's never over until it really is over.....
Thanks for looking.
Stu.
