Sunspot AR2712, some flaring, today's proms | Quark | June 2nd 2018

Post by MalVeauX »

Hey all,

It rained most of today, tropical storm Albert just keeps dumping it on us, days after his demise. I haven't seen blue or the sun in 2 weeks at this point, until today. I held out and found a brief moment with some access to the sun, at least, with a lot of haze and clouds between me and it. I still imaged. My persistence was rewarded when AR2712 started flaring with activity. It was really interesting to watch it go from a dark region to suddenly active with some flares around the umbra lines near the spots. Really cool to watch happen and managed to image a little of it. Some great prominences around the limb, a pillar like prom and some groups.

Equipment:

Celestron Omni XLT 120 (120mm F8.3 refractor)
Orion ST80 (400mm F5 refractor) with a 60mm aperture mask (F6.66)
Baader UV/IR Block Filter (ERF)
Daystar Quark Chromosphere
Orion Sirius

Very nice, Marty. Lots of great detail in both the AR and proms. It's a blue sky start to the day here, so I'm hoping to have a good session too. I'll see what the atmosphere is doing!

Flares are always exciting to see 'live'. Hopefully there's still some activity this morning.

Stu.
