Quick peek at active region 7/12/18 with the 10" LX200

Post by FlankerOneTwo »

Only able to sneak a couple of quick captures as the sun was dodging in and around some clouds. I figured it was time to pack it up when the thunder started Image. Seeing was fair to average on the whole with some gusting winds, still a little smoke in the area from the fires all around us, but the air did hold still for a few seconds here and there. Seems soft off center, not entirely sure if that's from being waaay past the back focus spec or some other issue - didn't seem like this in the past.

AstraImage changed their deconvolution routines and I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to best utilize them, as well as still messing around with color palettes (I really love Marty's golden look), but I'm pretty pleased with how these came out all things considered.

I noticed that I had the spacing wrong on the Optec, so added a few spacers and should be much better image scale now. Turns out "High Speed" in FireCapture does in fact work in 8-bit mode as well, that plus a smaller ROI doubled my frame rate, which undoubtedly helped as well.
I have a bunch more sequences to run through, maybe there's a better one in there somewhere.

Meade LX200 ACF 10", Aries D-ERF, Baader 3x solar telecentric, Quark Combo, Optec Lepus 0.62x, QHYIII 174. Whew!
Thanks to Valery for his suggestions and assistance! I've still got a lot to learn, but I'm pretty pleased with my progress so far.

BTW, the Quark seems to lose its ability to stay on band after a little while, I'm guessing because of our 100+ F temps. Is there a way to manage this? Will cooling it just a little help? Is there one end of the adjustment range best suited to hot temps? I've only tried from neutral to +3 so far, same problem - light goes orange after maybe 30 minutes and won't go back to green. Not quite ready to pony up for a SolarSpectrum with both active heating and cooling, but maybe that's what I need?

Thanks for looking!

-Patrick

Hi Patrick

To cool the etalon, change the tuning knob position counterclockwise for 1, 2, 3 or even more clicks from the initial best position.

BTW I hope you don't mind, below is the image you sent me for my processing. It seems sharp enough due to a good seeing and good focusing.

Nice results from the large scope Patrick, the later session is quite sharp :bow

The re-processed image looks quite sharp Valery...well done.
