July 7th - Ha

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi everyone...

I had a brief amount of time on Saturday to grab some images, but the seeing was poor so I limited the session to a few full disk images and cut attempts to do any higher resolution work based on how things shaped up on the monitor when I set up on the CR150.

The images below are a composite disk and limb exposure, with the limb layer inverted to enhance the small, faint proms on the eastern limb. These were taken through the LS80T/B1200Ha/LS75FHa double stack system:

With the new suspected AR starting to round the limb I was hoping to get more images but seeing limited me to these...both through the CR-150/DSSII/B1800Ha modded scope and a 2x tele-extender. The first had the pressure tuner of the DSII set a 0PSI which acted like a red filter (WL), while the second was set at 17PSI to put it on band for Ha:

I also cut the session short as I found the etalon wasn't properly aligned and I had to dismantle the modded setup and re-build it...which seemed to fix the issue but used up my time so I closed up for the day.

Questions and comments are always welcome,
Brian

Good shots! The new active region seems more of a decaying old one to me...

Brian,
I always like your full disks. Can I ask what was wrong with your etalon? How did it become misaligned and how did you correct it ?
Best wishes,
David

Yes, I agree, I think this big AR is very decayed and holds no sunspots. Just pretty in CaK and Halpha for the plage disturbances. Some lovely images Brian :bow

Franco, Mark, David, and Alexandra...

Thanks to each of you for your comments and feedback, it is always appreciated :bow

David, I had removed the DSII etalon from my modded setup to test out a few things, but when I reassembled it I had not seated properly in the holder and since it wasn't square to the optical axis it wouldn't tune.

Nice images, Brian. Now a few days on, the disturbed plage looks pretty impressive.

Hope you get your equipment back up to par shortly.
