New Sunspot (Undesignated ATM), Big Proms, Full Disc | HA | Nov 9th 2018

Heya,

Woke up to total fog cover, clouds and humidity. But, around 1pm Eastern, I was able to see through some sucker holes. Seeing wasn't very good, but it was good enough to attempt large scale. There's a new sunspot that looks like a small active region, but it's definitely a sunspot, a dipole, with two visible umbra that I resolved with a 150mm aperture. Some fairly large prominences are on the limb too. This sunspot is pretty interesting because it's such a high latitude on the solar disc in a region that sunspots of the 24th cycle really shouldn't be around. Maybe this is a sign of cycle 25?

Another fine set of images, Marty. Looks promising for the start of the 25th, or maybe it’s wishful thinking :). We need some hope that things are starting to turn around.

Super shots Marty! The spot is reversed polarity (compared to cycle 24 spots) so is part of cycle 25.
