5th December clear sky

Post by robert »

A clear sunny day and Spaceweather saying no sunspots, but I had a go at a full disk at about 9° altitude today and was surprised by the active area.
I also wanted to try to locate Mercury in daylight but it was hazy and I failed at that but did find Venus. In the process using the ED100 with ND5 astrosolar film to locate the sun as a start to finding Venus I noticed that the sunspot was actually quite complex and large in white light.

Wow! Where did that AR come from?
I may have some clear sky, for the first time in ages, coming up in a couple of days. I hope to be able to catch this beauty
Nice work

I noticed in the SDO images that the sunspot appeared this morning (EST) out of nowhere...

Very nice images, Robert. I have hope for this weekend.
