Proms & Filaments near Region of Activity | HA | June 3rd 2019

Post by MalVeauX »

Heya,

Was all doom and gloom this morning, but managed to attempt some this afternoon in the heat that Florida is right now, spiking 100F each afternoon. Ugh! Anyhow, the region with some activity is pretty extended and is churning out filaments so it's fairly active, be it new or a remnent of a previous active region I'm not sure. Interesting areas none the less along with some new prominences. I didn't have much time to get data, so I did a small FOV mosaic of the entire region near the limb.

Marty,
Where do you all get your solar feature identification from?

Jack

PS: I finished your tutorial and am going to practice tonight on some prior data.

Explore Scientific 152mm f6.5 achromat
Aeries D-ERF
Quark Chromosphere f27 native, (f14 when focal reduced)
Mallincam .5x focal reducer (large format)
12nm Filter
ZWO174 (IMX249 chip 5um)

Hi Jack,

Here's a good resource for features and general observing:

Thanks Marty. That is indeed an excellent identification tutorial of what a feature is and I will study it.

My other part of the question is where do you find the actual names of a feature such as AR1972?

The naming comes from the NOAA, you can get it real time from places like SolarHam & GONG links.

Very best,
