October 1st

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi all...

A very small selection of images taken over my lunch yesterday (October 1st). I had hoped for more time to experiment on the weekend, but the weather did not co-operate so I took advantage of the limited time to grab some full disk images. All are through the LS80T/B1200Ha/PGR ICX674 chipped camera, and are composites of separate disk and limb exposures.

The first was taken in the single stack mode, and shows a few faint proms and AR2749 which had just rounded the limb:

The next was taken in the double stack mode using the DSII module like it was meant to be used  In DS mode it only makes a slight improvement in the disk features (the AR has more contrast and a tiny hint of a filament appears in the NE quadrant, but the proms seem to be a bit sharper and more evenly exposed despite the longer exposure compared to the SS mode:

That's all form the Monday session...looking forward to more clear days if the is AR will hold on ;)

Super discs Brian :hamster: :bow
I guess the double stack doesn't do much for the surface details as there aren't really any at the moment. I have wondered this summer whether my Solarscope DS is actually working but I think it is, the only to tell is by looking at the limb ;) by this time next year I think things will start to hot up with the new cycle. Certainly with the double stack the plage is much brighter and I do prefer that image overall.

Good disks! Not weather for solar observing here.
