Saturday Sunshine 19th October
Hi Everyone. A last minute change of plan to the weekend meant I had time for some solar observing, a rare thing for me as we head towards the winter season. Took some time for the back edge of the weather front to finally budge, where I was rewarded with lovely transparent skies, but the seeing wasn't as good as might be hoped for. There was not much happening with our star in Ha, with the northern polar region being the most interesting with a hedgerow filament and also the bright points of polar faculae shining through. A few small prominences were visible too.

The Ha was taken with my 50mm lunt etalon double stacked with my Quark. I knew with the transparency I would have some hope in CaK and so stopped the Ed80 down to 60mm for the following disks:

I was quite pleased with the results, as the inverse granulation is seen mid disk and spicule ring with hints of the proms too when viewed full size.
Cloudy today so far, maybe some afternoon sunshine later...

Re: Saturday Sunshine 19th October
Mark , that hedgerow filament looks good, nothing but high clouds and haze in Brisbane today.

Superb images Mark, both the Ha and CaK show the finer details very nicely

Re: Saturday Sunshine 19th October
Nice catch Mark! That filament takes on a 3D effect with your processing.

The Quark introduced me to this wonderful side of the hobby and the sun hasn’t disappointed yet.

Re: Saturday Sunshine 19th October
Blank but at that resolution there is tons of stuff going on in the small scale. Lots of interesting bright points and a filament at the pole is so solar minimum, a really special feature
I am so glad you got to image, we had sunshine for about 15 minutes at lunchtime, enough for me to go oooh and quick enough for it to disappear before I had even thought about a telescope
