Dome Observatory Bay Orientation?

Post by PilotAstronomy »

Hey folks, so I've finally decided to replace my rickety DIY ROR Observatory with a Nexdome. I have room in my spot for a single bay---but I'm not entirely sure how to orient it to maximize its usefulness. Available spots are SW, NW, and N "corners". When using my ROR I just sit under my scope under a blanket, but I think with more sun protection in the Nexdome I won't have to be as awkward if it provides good enough shade. What're your thoughts on where to put it?

Currently, I've tried sitting both in front of and behind my scope facing both directions and none of them seem ideal. I either get a direct glare from the sun or a horrible reflection of my own self lit up by the sun. The blanket is the only thing that helps.

I also use the setup for night astrophotography, so if there's a reason to stick the bay in any direction for that and not solar I'd love to hear it.
