Active region on May 22
There wasn't much improvement in seeing from last day, but the active region made up for it.
I used my 7" inch Mak again, this time in double stack mode using a 35 nm Ha filter + 2X Powermate + LS50F +
+ Quark Combo + tilter + 0.5X reducer + Blackfly S (3.2Mp). This gave an efl of about 2700mm, probably a bit high for the conditions (only one image out of a dozen was acceptable).
The module itself is heavy. I hesitated to switch the order of the two etalons. The 2X Powermate seems able to support the LS50F + the rest of the image train. I also feel more comfortable that the image train is nearly vertical to reduce the tendency to "flex".
My c9.25 will produce a smaller image scale than this 7 inch with the same double stack module
(2300mm instead of 2700mm). I'll try that scope next time.

Nice image, Lou.
Should be a promising combination under good seeing conditions.
What is the focal ratio at the LS50?
Cheers.

Re: Active region on May 22
Hi, Peter
Your question made me realize that there was an error in my figures. I was thinking of the 3X telecentric I had used the other day instead of the 2X Powermate I used for the current images. I corrected the efl values in this post.
The 7 inch Mak has a "prime" focal length of 2700 mm at f/15. I used the 2X Powermate as a telecentric which gives an efl at the LS50F of 5400 mm at f/30. The 0.5X reducer brings it back to 2700 mm.

Hi Lou,
Those two images must be near the limits of how apparently close to the surface we can get from terra-firma.
With the set-up you are using as well as 2700mm too, is something to make me jealous, but very well done.
Clear Skies.
Terry

Very nice fine details, Lou. This will be a stunner under ideal seeing conditions.

Hi Lou,
Very nice HA close-up with that extremely long imaging train!

That's a great result and an interesting setup! I loved my former SW Mak 180 for white light work, but didn't see an easy way to use it for Hα. I may revisit it in the future (perhaps a Quark Combo?).
Do you perhaps have some images made with only the Mak + TV2x + LS50F?
