KEEP AN EYE ON THE S.E.LIMB for more action - NOW
Tuesday at around mid-day, SDO shows what is coming our way now.
Hopefully as good as AR2781...
Cheers

Thanks for the heads up.
Two days of heavy overcast in a row.
I'll just fire up Stellarium to check where the sun should have been today.

Ha Ha Rusted.
My chief Flying Instructor taught me to "Stick my finger out, and if gets wet - it's raining"
"If you can light a fag outside - there is not much wind"
"Watch the way the smoke drifts, for wind-direction"
"If you can't see the smoke, it was probably too-windy to light the fag outside - in the first place"..
Oooh Aaah !!
PS NO WIND, LITTLE SUN-SHINE & TOO LOW, 17-degreesC - so Summer again...

Terry,
I almost signed up to take flying lessons back in the mid-90s. Cost stopped me. I wish I would have. It costs a lot more now.

Thank you Eric, Alexandra and James.
Should be able to see whether spots or whatever, although I thought it looks like a spot and tomorrow should confirm that.
James, Yes it is expensive to learn to fly, albeit many U.K.r's seem to prefer to go to the states for flight-training, possibly because of the weather in some areas there - is better than the U.K.
Here the ability to legally-share flying costs does help to keep those costs down.
CLEAR SKIES (and of contrails too - helps)

If the cloud doesn't clear soon I shall qualify for an official SAD badge for my solar imaging cap.EGRAY_OBSERVATORY wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 1:30 pm Ha Ha Rusted.

Yes Rusted, you are not alone with the bad weather affecting both our areas and the forecast is showing more to come.
I'm just spending the down-time with some new-gear, so at least not all lost here and in any case so little time with the low-down Sun at the observatory, that at least I've something else to do with eventual Sola-imaging etc., and imaging from a different location...
Cheers

It's not all bad! Cloudy weather gives us the time to do all the things we promised we would when it was sunny.
Like fitting a bigger PSU, case and cooling fan, fusebox with fuses and a new PA altitude turnbuckle for my home made mounting.
How's that for prioritising?

Re: KEEP AN EYE ON THE S.E.LIMB for more action - NOW
Absolutely Rusted on taking advantage of the "Down Time."
like you, with our bad-weather in S.E.England, I've been working on the new R2 imaging-system, where it is now all fitted in a flight-case and over the weekend the first imaging trials using a 114mm reflector-scope, has successfully imaged a Boeing 747 at some 20-miles range, from home and through a double-glazed window in poor day-light too.
Even the first image taken and extracted from an AVI-file of my weather-station's mast-head at around 40-feet distance, shows some of the many possibilities available.
Just need some Sun-shine to try the new portable-gear along with the reflector and the Vixen mount outside for some WL trials...
Cheers for now

Re: KEEP AN EYE ON THE S.E.LIMB for more action - NOW
As Dan has just mentioned in his own post, there is another massive Sun-spot appearing on the edge of the S.E.Limb, as of 22:00z on Monday evening
16th November..
Hopefully I will get a little bit of Sun-shine to image this with the new R2 and the 114mm Reflector - soon.
Watch this (or that) space...
