Sunday fun in the Sun (22/11/20)
Yesterday was a beautiful day with a nice clear patch right over lunchtime which was good for viewing from my upstairs window.
I started off with the PST and the PGR Chameleon and imaged at 1x for the CaK PST and 1.6x for the DS H-alpha PST. I was quite pleased with the resolution this time.

I then set about fixing some problems. Number 1 the DMK41. The hubby had worked very hard and searched Imaging Source for many new Windows 10 drivers and come up with a new one plus a new version of IC Capture. I was very disappointed at first as I still couldn't get live view. After a bit of clicking around I clicked on 'Auto exposure' which is hopeless of course but when I unticked it, it suddenly I had live view! So it seems to be a bit of glitch. I then found all the videos were ultra compressed and after digging around unclicked that and finally got some decent captures again.
I also caught a big bulge occurring in AR12785 which lasted for only 10 minutes

Dynamic range seems to be much better with the DMK41 but resolution is poorer, but no Newton's rings!

So back the Newton's rings on Chameleon, problem number 2. I spent yet another 30 minutes fiddling with the ZWO tilt adapter, I've had it for over a year and still not managed to work out how the damn thing works. After another 30 minutes on this logic puzzle I gave up and gave it to the Hubby. He looked at it for 30 seconds and demonstrated how it works. I still don't get it!! I don't think I ever will. So off I went to try it on the PST and Chameleon anyway and it was impossible to achieve focus. I tried with the 1.6x Barlow but still far too far away. Anyone who knows the PST knows you need to be very close to the chip to get focus. So that was that, the ZWO tilt adapter goes back in the drawer again as an unsolved logic puzzle.
So, I figured to use the Chameleon on the H-alpha PST it is best to use a 1.6x Barlow, take two halves to minimize the NRs and zip them together. It's not brilliant but acceptable with some wiggling.
I had a good time and it was nice to play with the PSTs again

Looks good! I especially like the CaK images. And you caught the new spot emerging on the SE limb. I did not get it until today. I am glad you got to see the Sun!!

It looks like you had to do a good amount of work but in the end you had a good, fun session ! Always great to see your beautiful images, Alexandra.
You get a lot out of that PST, at the different lights.

Nicely done, Alexandra. Lots of activity beautifully imaged. Pity you're having to fight with the technology to get there. I'm sure you (and Darren) will get there in the end.

Hi Alexandra...
Nice to see you had some sun and opportunity to get some images! The full disks came out quite well indeed
It is to be clear here tomorrow...hope to get a look at the new crop of AR's if all goes well!
