G1 Geomagnetic Storm 25th-27th Jan '21

Post by Carbon60 »

25th January Earth entered a fast flowing stream of solar wind from a coronal hole on the Sun causing a G1 Geomagnetic Storm and bright aurorae around the poles. My magnetometer also recorded the event which so far has lasted 3 days and is still ongoing, albeit somewhat subdued at the moment and is likely to fade over the coming hours.

Here are my magnetometer data covering the event so far.

For the lucky ones, there might be a chance of seeing illuminated skies tonight.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Good record Stu! I'm missing the aurora, lets hope this solar cycle delivers some to more mid latitudes.

Thanks for sharing these observations Stu!

Hope that someone can catch an auroral display, though the near full moon will interfere a bit.

Brian
