SMA 905 Light Source

Post by Grakrob778 »

Hello, I am looking for a reasonable halogen light source for my Thunderoptics spectrometer. Doing a quick search they seem very expensive. Any help would be much appreciated!

Don't know what physical-size, voltage and current you require,
but some of the smallest Halogen light Bulbs can be found as automobile headlights, such as:-
typically 12volts, 55Watts = 5Amps at full/maximum-brightness and usually found in Motor-Spare Parts retailers. (or at your local scrap dealer)..

Some of the older (pre LED torches) are claimed to have Halogen bulbs and I believed that some older film/slide-projectors would use these.

LED's generally are taking-over much of the work that Halogen bulbs did, as for the same or similar brightness, a much lower voltage and amps is required for those as a light source.

Possibly James / Deep Solar64 might assist the knowledge as I recall he has experience of such lighting...

Best wishes
Terry

Thanks Terry. I'm just starting out with my cheapo spectrometer and didn't know if I could use an LED for calibration.
