G1 Geomagnetic Storm 19th Dec 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi all,

A G1 geomagnetic storm arrived yesterday evening (as recorded here in the UK), sparking beautiful aurora for those lucky enough to see them.

Here's my record of the event.

This was quite unexpected, but it's probably related to the significant uptick in activity we've been marvelling at these past few days.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

That's a short but sharp event, it gets up to 10 on your scale (my mental marker) but doesn't last long. Still cloud cloud cloud here, I think I am going to miss comet Leonard as well :(

That's a good record of the impact Stu. It would have been a good evening aurora if skies were clear. I'm the same as Alexandra, little hope of seeing the comet. All the travelling kit is up at the boat now, but to be honest I think the grey and damp that has been with us for weeks is here until the new year, be it the mild or cold version.

Many thanks, Alexandra and Mark.

Darn clouds. Grey and miserable here too, spoiling the view.
Have a great time on your boat, Mark. I’m sure there will be a little warming dram now and then to keep the cold weather out, even if it’s mild. ;)
