2” barlow on Lunt60MT B1200

Post by Taipan »

I just bought a Lunt 60MT with tha B1200 blockfilter.
I alredy have a 2x barlow 2”.
Is it possible to mount the barlow between the telescope and tha blockfilter? Or must i have a 1,25” barlow and mount it afterski the blockfilter?
I have a 1,25” powermate Also but they are crap for solar i heard??

Good question Taipan. This may well have come up before on SolarChat - with either the modular or non-modular Lunt 60, where I have the latter scope for Ha and CaK.

One could always get an accurate-answer from Lunt themselves by Email - where they would always advise correctly and for any safety issue.

I've never had an issue with my 2.5x TV PowerMate with my LS60 (THAT I KNOW OF), so perhaps to try that first anyway.

I can't confirm whether putting your 2x Barlow 2" before the BF will risk any heating-issues and whether there is actually any benefit either, so still best to ask Lunt... (Focusing might well change from the basic set-up)...

Best Wishes on your new acquisition
Terry

I would use a 1,25" barlow after the blocker. However, do try the 2" ahead, it may be that you run out of focus.

Any tips on which 1,25" 2x-3x barlow is preferable?

Best to look through the massive archived-material on the SolarChat pages - with their images through different Barlow's as the 60mm Lunt scopes have been around for well over 10-years, so one can decide on the different manufacturers of each, plus their current prices and availability can be checked on the web...

Sorry. The telescope i bought is the LS60MT. Can’t fins so much information about barlows on that one. Different focallength(420mm) and maybe backfokus compared to the LHa with 500mm focallength.

It really doesn't matter that much in ultra narrow monochromatic light (compared to polychromatic light), none of the usual aberrations apply - I would just pick one that is available in your location and suits your budget.

No.

It's designed for a f10 system. It's a telecentric not a barlow.

I still unscrew the lens from Televue 2x or 3x and insert inside B1200 or BF15 for to place a full disk of the sun on my 174mm

Ok. Tnx for answers.
I have a 2.5X powermate so i guess it will work then :)
Use a Player one IMX178 so i will use the LS60MH (420mm) for full disk and tha powermate for closeups....
Just waiting for the Lunt to arrive....

Used a Lunt 50 before and the backfokus on that one didn't allow any barlow or tiltadaptor...
