CME and Geoeffective Wake 9th - 11th Feb 2022

Post by Carbon60 »

Another weak CME impact (9th) hardly moving the needle, yet its wake has generated a G1 storm and some beautiful aurora to relatively low latitudes. Some have been reported over the UK.

Here are my magnetometer data over the period 9th - 11th, which includes the small impact, build up and decay of the minor solar storm. As usual I've shown my data as 'rate of change' as this eliminates minor temperature drift over the intervening hours, but I've also included the parent data from which the rate of change is calculated, as a comparison.

My next chart shows a comparison between my own data and that from Chambon la Foret in France, near Orleans, south of Paris. The two sets of data correlate very well given that the two stations are 800km (500 miles) apart. Just shows that my system is still working well.

No starlink satellites down this time

Thanks for looking.

Thanks Stuart, I got an alert from the BAA last night that it was visible in Shetland. I did have a peep outside but it was cloudy :( Glad you caught it though :hamster:

Thanks Alexandra.
It was clear here, but my view north is really bad with trees blocking the view.

That's an excellent catch of the impact Stu! I hope we get some UK wide aurora during cycle 25 visible.

Thanks, Mark. Indeed, let's hope so.
