Huge and active SE Prom Animation, 32 minutes, 7-3-2022

Post by H-Alpha »

Hi all,

Today I had one and half hour of sunny sky. I started my session by focusing on an active area at the NE, but it did not show much activity and after 45 min of capture, I turned the scope to a huge prom at the SE limb that looked promising in what regards its activity apart its size.

The prom was growing and growing... at the level that went out of my frame (which was not well placed since the beginning anyway). Once more the clouds stopped me at 32 min of capture. Despite this and the bad framing, I am happy with the result that I hope you will like.

I still have not found a way to completely eliminate the artifacts of the Newtonian rings on the black sky. If you have any idea how to address this problem it will be very helpful.

Awesome animation, amazing details in the prom and what great movement! Have you tried a tilt adapter for the NR's?

Not so far Warren. I heard about it in some old posts, but never understood how to do this. Do you remember any post that you could point to?

Thanks once more,
Alexandros

As already said "AWSOME" is the word.

Never mind the slight NR, as irrelevant compared to the fine-detail from that prominence.

Thanks for sharing

It’s a fairly simple adapter that allows you to add some slight tilt to the camera which can reduce or eliminate the Newton Rings. As others have mentioned they aren’t that distracting in your amazing animation, but since you asked, here is a link to the one made by ASI. It is basically trial and error to see how much tilt to incorporate to reduce the rings.
