Calcium sun Saturday April 2, 2022

Post by ffellah »

Hello all: this morning a mix of clouds and clear sky with below average seeing. This is a view of the sun using the Evostar 150ED stopped down to 65mm and the Quark CaH. Camera was the FLIR 174 chip that was literally flying at the 163 FPS nominal speed. At the beginning of the session I tried using the 2.7x Airylab telecentric but with the poor seeing I have to see if anything came out of it. It was fun, though !

You can see AR2975 and 76 flaring.

I dedicate this to our friend Terry, hoping he gets better soon.

Franco

Wonderful CaH images Franco, your shots are at the same time as the end of my animation and I love seeing the flares from your wide angle view in a different wavelength.

Excellent capture Franco! I was observing this flare visually in Ha at that time with my SMII60. I didn't notice the bit of flare near the large spot of AR12976 but the ones in 75 I saw easily. The higher magnification and resolution of the SMII90 would have probably made all the difference here.

I'll post an AIA1600 closeup of the flare shortly in my report which gives a similar view to CaH and CaK.

That's a nice CaH image Franco! You should use your big chipped PGR with the 65/1220 setup. You will tease out a lot more resolution with the smaller pixels of the ICX814 camera.

Thank you Brian, Warren, James, Stu and Mark. I will look through the close ups to see if any image is good enough to post, showing the flaring in more detail.

Thank you Eric. Of the 11 SER files I have of this region, this is the only one I could save that is not completely horrible because of the poor seeing and still shows the flaring.

Brilliant catching the flares! It may be my eyes but the monochrome seems slightly more restful & distinct than the coloured version - lovely.
