Solar Spectrum OS 1.5
Yesterday I received my new Solar Spectrum filter.
It's the Solar Observer 1.5 serie - 0.7A
This filter was in stock (Teleskop Service) and so no waiting time.
My previous order was canceled due indefinite delivery time.
So I got a Solar Spectrum, it looks to be a sturdy Ha filter.
There's something odd about it, there is no temp controller present, only a power adapter 5V.
The temp can be read on the side of the filter.
The temp is set to 27°C.
I have not been able to test this filter yet, but I plan to double stack it.
Do I have a stange Type of Solar Spectrum Ha filter?

Re: Solar Spectrum OS 1.5
What does the display show when you switch it on?
There seems to be a display on the side. Any temperature buttons?
The 27 degrees is the factory optimum temp for centre-line. Mine was something similar but on my telescope and set up I found 23.5 degrees to be optimal for all my sags.

Hi Maurits
On my SolarSpectrum 0.3A the controller is in a stand alone box. Never seen it built-in like yours, but I like it. Must be a new generation. The other thing is that my temperature setting is 42 degress. Close to my Quantum filter at 43 degress.
Looking forward to how it works!

I need to be honest, love the Daystar filters, electronic reduced to the essential, power in and USB to serial and you are ready to tune it remotely on the desired band.

Well sounds nice but the most important thing for me is the image and I do not care about how the electronics works and most important ...
... they should deliver an image and not be blind
I still have the bad taste in my mouth

Re: Solar Spectrum OS 1.5
My guess is that the on-off temp. control adjustment knob is on the filter here:There's something odd about it, there is no temp controller present, only a power adapter 5V.
The temp can be read on the side of the filter.
The temp is set to 27°C.
27C seems a bit low (at least it would be for a DayStar), but due to using a TEC, cooling the filter when the temp. is above 27C should theoretically not be an issue. You likely will benefit from using a IR blocking ERF of some sort...

Re: Solar Spectrum OS 1.5
Sounds weird. My SS filter (I got it from Telescope Service too when it was in stock) is perfect calibrated from the beginning. But you need to play a little bit with the temperature if you feel it is off-band. I can see on my filter that it will reach 44 degrees and then the cooler takes it down 2 degrees - a little nice feature. I don't see any temperature variations during a warm summer day. I use it with a 8" Triband SCT and a 80mm TS ED. The TS with a 75mm Baader cool ERF.

Re: Solar Spectrum OS 1.5
maybe i was lucky with my two that i had, and the one i have now, the only thing I've changed from their advice, I use a Baader D-ERF and TZ-Barlows (no Televue or Red-Yellow glass as an ERF) they both throw you out of bandrsfoto wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 8:34 pmHi,Geremia Forino wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 6:49 pm I need to be honest, love the Daystar filters, electronic reduced to the essential, power in and USB to serial and you are ready to tune it remotely on the desired band.

Re: Solar Spectrum OS 1.5
Yes you were lucky then but I have to say I did not create a FrankenQUARK or or a FrankenQUANTUM PE 0.4Å anything similar. I bought both systems entirely from DayStar so it should allegedly be ready for anything but it was not ...Geremia Forino wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 2:18 pmmaybe i was lucky with my two that i had, and the one i have now, the only thing I've changed from their advice, I use a Baader D-ERF and TZ-Barlows (no Televue or Red-Yellow glass as an ERF) they both throw you out of bandrsfoto wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 8:34 pmHi,Geremia Forino wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 6:49 pm I need to be honest, love the Daystar filters, electronic reduced to the essential, power in and USB to serial and you are ready to tune it remotely on the desired band.

This was the biggest disappointment in my Solar imaging career and especially the very LOUSY treatment on this problem from the side of DayStar towards me.
I know it not much money for DayStar but for me it was a lot of money ... about US $ 13,600.00 (QUARK and QUANTUM PE 0.4Å) ... Never ever again DayStar in my House ...
Sorry for the new rant over the cold coffee from day before yesterday
regards Rainer

Re: Solar Spectrum OS 1.5
it's a lot of money I understand you, I also know of other stories and I feel lucky
Re: Solar Spectrum OS 1.5
Your SO-1.5 is from when I wanted to put the TEC controller inside the oven housing. It SHOULD BE USED WITH THE 5 VOLT POWER SUPPLY THAT CAME WITH IT. What happen was I had some people putting 12v power supplies and it would burn out the chip.
So I went back to having the controller outside the housing and use a volt regulator to only allow 5 volts to the chip. The two dots are a good place to start for the temperature. Like any analog controller, when you move the pot . Move it a little and wait till it come to temperature. I found that the meter is good for a reference but the final tuning should be done with the pot. That control chip is a very precision controller. The stop was added so once you found the correct setting for your system. You would lock it down to keep the pot from moving.

Re: Solar Spectrum OS 1.5
Thanks Mark for the explanation.
I'am so glad that I have this Ha filter.
I follow that advice and look to the test pictures before I touch the temp controller.
Now waiting for the Sun.
Thanks all for the feedback.
