Quark Calcium for Triband 8 SC & TAK FOA60?

Post by mike_fos »

I would like to take Calcium pictures with my Baader Triband 8 inch SC and Takahashi refractor FOA 60 f8.8. The
Energy Rejection Filter of the Triband has transmission window between 380 and 400 nm,

Could I use a Quark Calcium H with UV-IR filter for this?

Should I stop down the Triband SC to 120 mm or 150 mm aperture or can I work with full aperture?

Or would a Lunt calcium module like CaK B1200 be the better solution?

I am grateful for any advice.

Michael

Sct are not suitable for calcium imaging, even if baader make this scope. You will get better results with the tak scope stopped down to 50mm.

1. If you mean using UV/IR cut filter, then i want to know, how can you capture CaK wavelength or bandwidth while you blocked UV and beyond?

2. I would choose that Lunt CaK B1200 any day if i can.

Hello Tareq,

You can use Lunt Ca K on your 60 mm refractor with no problem. No need for an ERF.

As for Quark Calcium H, you can use a UV/IR filter as long as the filter transmits Ca H. Check the transmission profiles provided by the manufacturers.
A better solution is to use a B filter, as long as it transmits Ca H (as an example, Baader CCD B is OK).

As recommended by Mark, would will get better results if you stop down the aperture of teh Tak down to 50 mm (this reduces spherical aberration).

Thank you for advice. I tend to buy the Lunt B1200 module and use the TAK 60.
I understood that the Triband Sc is not suitable for Ca because of the spherochromatism.

The answer is for Michael, not me
