Eyepieces time
Hi all again,
Now that i have The Quark Chromo and Antlia wedge and i also ordered a cheap solar film i am thinking about doing visual also and not only focus on imaging, and for that purpose i want to know what do you suggest or recommend as eyepieces with different scopes i might use.
Antlia wedge with that synthetic CaK or K-Line filter isn't good for visual, as they mentioned that band is invisible anyway or not into visible range, so that will be out, but i might use the wedge itself with something else if i can remove that K-Line filter somehow.

Hi Tareq,
I find Baader Hyperions very nice for visual solar.

Which magnifications?
Also, which solar setup it is very nice with?

Re: Eyepieces time
Hi Tareq.
I'm using it with my 800mm focal length scopes - ha, WL (and lunar) - I use the 10mm version which gives 80x magnification and the full disk is visible too.

Re: Eyepieces time
I use Lunt, Coronado and TeleVue eyepieces for solar. I have a Lunt 19mm and 8mm, Coronado CeMax eyepieces in 25, 18 and 12mm and TeleVue in 20mm ( plossl ) 18.2mm ( DeLite ) and 6mm ( Delos ). I also use a Sky-Watcher 10mm 10mm MA and a Meade 5mm plossl at times.
Visual use with your Antlia wedge would be done using a monitor. If it's realtime visual it counts as such!!

Televue Plössls work best for me. They deliver the best contrast.

Re: Eyepieces time
In fact i am planning for only one Tele Vue Plossl eyepiece for solar, and there are let's say 3 choices i see, i will buy only one because i will buy another eyepieces for another targets too from Tele Vue, so expensive, like Ethos or Nagler, so i won't buy like 2-4 eyepieces all from TV for solar only, i can buy one Plossl and say another one very cheap from another brand, Plossl is almost the cheapest from TV, means there isn't another cheaper series from them.

Re: Eyepieces time
I like the plossls except for one thing. Eye relief. I have considerable astigmatism and need at least 15mm eye relief to get a decent field with my glasses on. 18mm+ is better. Only the medium to longer FL plossl eyepieces can do this. The TeleVue DeLite and Delos eyepieces all excel in long eye relief and for me that's a BIG plus. But yes they are more expensive than plossls. The Coronado CeMax and Lunt eyepieces are also too short of eye relief on their shorter focal length oculars but are adequate on their models 18mm and up.
I'll choose eye relief over field of view every time!

Since for now i only use a quark at f/35+ focal ratios, i can happily use the 32mm and 40mm TV Plössls. The 40mm has about 2m eyerelief
Doesnt give more fov but its often better with contrast because seeing.

Re: Eyepieces time
I also will use the Quark, but it is the combo version which doesn't have that barlow effect, not sure if that will make any difference, i do have barlows or extenders anyway, so i can choose different eyepieces with eye relief enough, but i really want to know why to suggest or recommend a Plossl specifically for solar view or even for planetary in general, why the Plossls?Dennis wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 5:00 pmDeepSolar64 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 4:23 pm I like the plossls except for one thing. If i want eyerelief i use the delos, but not for solar.
The Plossls have a low number of lenses, which is better for solar (less glass/air surfaces). The TV Plossls are additionally excellent because they are very well blackened inside the eyepiece and in general are designed to have maximum contrast.
I havent tried Panoptics though.

Re: Eyepieces time
I actually have no problem with my 6mm Delos for solar. It's sharp across the field with no odd reflections between the lenses or loss of contrast. I don't have any longer focal length ones but my 18.2mm DeLite works well too. I use the 20mm plossl a lot with the Orion70 for white light.
